Ex-Southport Queensland. When he was six years old his family moved from Yarrawonga to Queensland. After an impressive debut season in 2009 he stepped up to be a regular component of the forward line in 2010, although there was a slight flaw in his kicking for goal. Beams was one of a talented batch of youngsters who warranted their coach's faith and he was part of the 2010 flag side. His real breakout season came in 2012 when he won the best and fairest and was selected as an All-Australian, but a quad injury meant that in 2013 he didn't play until round 16. Requested a trade to Brisbane at the end of 2014, a deal that helped Collingwood net Jack Crisp, Levi Greenwood and Jordan De Goey.
