Ex-Kilcunda-Bass, and Gippsland Under-18s. He only played sporadic games in his first two seasons at Collingwood, but Collingwood showed its belief when he made the team for the 2009 finals. In 2010 he was much more regular, missing just five games. He gained confidence and adjusted to not playing in the key forward role he had occupied at other levels. He played in the 2010 premiership side, but groin and foot injuries restricted him to just four appearances the next year. Just before the 2012 season he went down with a season-ending knee injury but came back in 2013 and showed an aptitude for run-with roles against key on-ballers. He ran sixth in the best and fairest.
