The President, Board, staff and members of the Collingwood Football Club would like to express their sadness at the passing of former players Tony Beers and Russell Jessop. The son of 1958 premiership player Brian BeersTony Beers played five games for the club between 1982 and 1983. He then went to Claremont in the WAFL where he played more than 100 games, captained the club and played in two premierships. Russell Jessop was on the Collingwood list between 1976 and 1977, and, like Beers, managed five games across his two seasons. A product of Thornbury, Jessop played in the Magpies’ under-19 premiership side in 1974, and followed it with a role in the reserves team’s flag in ’76. He later played for Preston in the VFA and Lalor in the Diamond Valley League, and he was a star in both. The club, the Past Players Association and the Collingwood Archives Committee would all like to extend their deepest sympathies to the Beers and Jessop families. Read more about Tony Beers here.
