There was only a small attendance at the Geelong Oval when the locals met Collingwood. The game was interesting, and in the last quarter exciting, Collingwood winning in the concluding ten minutes.
A strong breeze favoured the south goal, to which Geelong kicked in the first quarter. They had the best of the play, but only succeeded in scoring 3 goals and 3 behinds to Collingwood's 1 goal and 1 behind. Geelong, playing well against the wind, scored a goal, and at halftime the scores were Collingwood, 5 goals and 3 behinds (33 points); Geelong 4 goals 4 behinds (28 points).
The locals obtained 2 goals 3 behinds, to 1 behind in the third term. The final quarter was keenly contested. Collingwood had the assistance of the wind. Their supporters became anxious when, with only about ten minutes to go, Geelong were leading by a few points. Two goals in quick succession settled matters, and the visitors ran out winners by 14 points.
