Match Report

THE MAGPIES BEAT THE BLUES. BY OLD BOY.

Collingwood entertained Carlton yesterday afternoon at Victoria-park, and though the visitors led at the first change, their hosts soon after took the lead. Carlton did fairly well until three-quarter time, when they were only 8 points behind, but in the final term Collingwood never gave them a  look in, and put on 5 goals 2 behinds to 2 behinds, and ran out winners by 8 goals 11 behinds to 3 goals 3 behinds.

The game was a scrambling one, the strong cross wind confining players to one  wing. The goal-kickers for Collingwood were E. Lockwood (3), Smith (2), Tulloch, Leach, Pears, and, for Carlton, Scott, Sullivan, and T.G. Ross. Keenan umpired the game.

For Collingwood goodwork was done by Hailwood, M'Cormack, Dummett, Tulloch, Rush, Allan, Pannam, Condon, and Monohan; while for Carlton J. M'Shane, H. M'Shane, Rowlands, Tough, Watson, Walton, Scott,  Noonan, Walsh, and Snell were the most useful.
