Match Report
Collingwood, 7 goals 10 behinds; Carlton, 2 goals 8 behinds- do not fully represent the difference in the teams, for Carlton were never in the hunt.
Incoll, Angus, Condon, and E. Lockwood were away from Collingwood; while Carlton missed Scott, Webber, Harlow, and O'Connor.
Gibson, umpired.
Pannam and Allan (on the wings), F. Leach (in the centre), M'Cormack (for ground work), Monohan (in the air), and Rush (on the half-back line), Dommett, G. Lockwood (back), Hailwood (ruck), Rowell (who did very well half-forward), and Farrell, and A. Leach (in the ruck and forward), Tulloch everywhere were the pick of the Magpies; and the whole team played the fine concerted game they picked up in Tasmania during their holiday.
To Carlton it was a day of disasters, for the cold, showery weather worked greatly against the attendance, and the failure of the team threw away the last hope almost of getting into the finals. It was a case of a side not being able to do anything right. Roland, their ruck centreman, failed as he has not failed before this season, and not until the last quarter did he do anything. Opie, Walton, and Lazarus were all conspicuous in the defence of their goal, and the first named also put in the useful term in the ruck.
Topping, half-forward and roving played fairly well. Walsh was the best of the ruck, Snell roving was not so good as usual, but Watson and H. M'Shane both did well half-forward.
