The Mark of the Year first became a feature of football coverage in the 1970s, highlighted initially by Channel 7's World of Sport program, and then later the ABC. It first became an official AFL award in 2001, and for a time was run on public vote. It is now a combination of panel and public voting, following a controversial decision in 2017 which saw Jeremy Howe's all-timer outvoted by a so-so effort from Essendon's Joe Daniher. So even though Howie didn't win it that year, we've included it in the list below with an asterisk, because we still haven't found anyone who doesn't think it was the best grab of the year (and one of the best of all-time!)
