Wasley arrived at Collingwood with a glowing reputation established in the SANFL with Norwood, but stress fractures of the foot kept him on the sidelines for the first half of 1998. After just two games with the reserves he forced his way into the senior side and showed promise as a winger or half-forward flanker with a good turn of speed. At the start of 1999 he showed great running capacity from defence. A knee injury early in the year was a setback just when he was establishing himself in defence. Wasley started the 2000 in the seniors, but injured a shoulder after just a couple of games and although he forced his way straight back into the seniors, lost confidence and was pushed back to the reserves. He was delisted at the end of 2001 after a disappointing season which saw him on the sidelines for half a year with an ankle injury.
